Unlike Model 500 and 590 shotguns (with the exception of ghost-ring exhibition 590 models), Model 590A1 shotguns cannot be fitted with the factory fever shield, due to the big barrel
- A Mossberg 590 hot spell shield and bayonet lug are required for service 3443G Type I riot shotguns, and some 590A1s are so equipped, but it is not clear if the 590A1 hot spell shields have ever been offered for sale outside of the military market.

The dissimilar model 505 Youth shotgun, extraneous in 2005, is similar to the Bantam but scaled down further
- The 505 of the old school a 12 inch pull buttstock (compared to a standard model's 14 inches, or a Bantam's 13 inches), a 20 inch barrel, and a four shot pamphlet tube
- The 505 is gettable in 20 gauge and .410 bore
- Parts are not interchangeable with other model 500 variants.
